Reinforce the use of the language of distance: high, higher, highest, low, lower, lowest
Before the video
- Sing the song ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’.
- Identify which parts of the body are higher/lower, highest/lowest.
During the video
First viewing:
Watch the video without stopping or pausing. Then, ask the children to explain what happened in the video. Begin to draw out key vocabulary or possible misconceptions.

Game: Higher/lower hiding place:
- Working in pairs, 1 student hides an object and then directs their partner to find it using the language of ‘higher’ and ‘lower’.

Game: Where are the colors?
- Students work in small teams to make ‘towers’ and solve the following riddles. Give each team a blue, red, green and yellow connecting cube (or objects that can stack).
- Riddle 1: Yellow is the lowest. Green is the highest. Blue is higher than red. Is yellow higher or lower than blue? (LOWER)
- Riddle 2: Green is higher than yellow. Red is lower than green. Blue is highest. Red is not the lowest. Which color is the lowest? (YELLOW)
- Riddle 3: Blue is lower than green. Yellow is lower than green. Red is higher than blue. Yellow is higher than red. Which color is the lowest? (BLUE)
- Riddle 4: Yellow is higher than blue. Red is lower than green. Blue is higher than red. Green is higher than blue. Which color is the highest? (YELLOW)
- Riddle 5: Green is the lowest. Red is higher than blue. Yellow is higher than green. Which color is the highest? (Trick question – not enough information!)
